13-14 Teeners go 1-2 at state tournament
(08.08.05) -- The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners went 1-2 at the State 13-14 Teener AA Majors Tournament this past weekend at the Harmondon Baseball Complex in Sioux Falls.
Post 8 dropped their lone Friday game to Sioux Falls West, 31-15 in four innings.
Pierre held an 8-7 lead after two frames, but West scored 12 in the third and 11 more in the fourth to put away the contest.
Evan Moore had three hits and three RBIs, and Graham Schuetzle and Evan Fuller each added two hits for Pierre. Dillon Gran was the losing pitcher.

Pierre bounced back with an 8-6 defeat of Mitchell Saturday morning. Schuetzle delivered the big blow, a three-run inside-the-park home run that gave Pierre a lead it would not relinquish.
Moore was the winning pitcher, scattering nine hits over seven innings without allowing an earned run.
Post 8, a win away from qualifying for the final four, dropped a 13-11 decision to Brandon Valley.
Brandon Valley broke a 9-9 tie with a four-run fifth and held off Pierre, who had the tying run at second base in the seventh but could not score the last two runs.
Gran went 3-for-3 with with two RBIs and Ryan Hahn had a pair of hits. Raven Cummings was the losing pitcher.
The Post 8 13-14's ended their season with a 17-22 record.

13-14 Teeners end regular season with split of Tracers
(08.01.05) -- The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners ended their regular season by splitting a doubleheader with the Pierre Tracers, dropping game one 8-4 before taking game two 11-1 in five innings Sunday at Hyde Stadium.
The Tracers broke a 2-2 tie with a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by Tanner Schaefer's three-run triple. Post 8 was able to score two more, but the Tracers held on for the four-run victory.
Jarrett Jensen tossed a complete game, allowing seven hits in seven innings to earn the win. Evan Moore was charged with the loss.
Schaefer and Nolan Merrill had two hits apiece for the Tracers, while Graham Schuetzle had two hits to lead Post 8.
In the second game, Post 8 used a four-run second to take control, rolling to an 11-1, five-inning win.
Ryan Hahn led Post 8 with three hits, including a two-run home run that bounced off the top of the fence before eventually finding the water beyond left field. Schuetzle went 4-for-4 and Miles Schock had two hits for Post 8. The Tracers were held to just three hits, one an RBI single by Nolan Hindman.
Mike Coit was the winning pitcher for Post 8, while Schaefer took the loss for the Tracers.
Post 8's 13-14 Teeners, 16-20, will face Sioux Falls West Friday in their first game of the State AA Majors Tournament, taking place at the Harmondon Baseball Complex in Sioux Falls.

13-14's split with Pierre Tracers
(07.31.05) -- The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners and the Pierre Tracers split the first two games of a four-game series Saturday night at Hyde Stadium.
The Tracers took game one 10-8, while the Post 8 13-14's took game two 16-1 in three innings.
In game one, the Tracers jumped out to a 10-2 lead before Post 8 put up a five-run fifth. Post 8 scored another in the sixth, and had the tying run on base in the seventh before the Tracers ended the contest.
Ryan Lauseng tossed a complete game to earn the win for the Tracers, while Raven Cummings was the losing pitcher for Post 8.
Dillon Gran hit an inside-the-park home run and Evan Moore doubled and tripled for Post 8. Jarrett Jensen hit a three-run triple and Garrett Weber had three hits for the Tracers.
Game two saw Post 8 score eight runs in the second inning, seven unearned, and then put up eight more in the third for a 16-1 win.
Gran was the winning pitcher, allowing one run and one hit in three innings for Post 8. Tyler Sandal suffered the hard-luck loss for the Tracers, allowing just four earned runs.
Every Post 8 batter reached base in the contest, with Adam O'Day doubling to lead six players who all had two hits.
The two teams will meet again this afternoon at 1 p.m. The teams are in their last tuneups for the postseason, as the Post 8 13-14's (15-19) are in the Majors division of the State AA 13-14 Teener Tournament, while the Tracers will represent Pierre in the Minors division.

13-14 Teeners state tournament details announced
(07.26.05) -- The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners are one of 12 13-14 AA Major teams that automatically qualify for the State 13-14 AA Majors Teener Tournament, August 5-7 at the Harmondon Baseball Complex in Sioux Falls.
The tournament will feature three four-team pools, with round-robin play within each team's pool on Friday and Saturday.
The champion from each pool, plus a fourth wildcard team, will advance to Sunday's championship round play. The teams will be seeded, with the top seed playing the fourth seed, and two playing three. The winners will play for first while the losers play for third.
Post 8's 13-14 Teeners are in the Blue Pool, along with the Brandon Valley Thundercats, Mitchell, and Sioux Falls West.
Pierre is 3-0 this season against Sioux Falls West. They split with Mitchell in Mitchell earlier this season, and have not played Brandon Valley.
There is also a Minors State Tournament, which will be played on three smaller fields at the seven-field Harmondon Complex. The Pierre Tracers 13-year olds are participating in that event. The two Pierre squads will play this Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hyde Staidum.

13-14's split with Huron
(07.25.05) -- The Pierre 13-14 Teeners dropped game one 8-6 before claiming game two 14-5, splitting a doubleheader with the Huron PB Sports 13-14 Teeners Sunday afternoon at Hyde Stadium.
Huron used a four-run first to take control, leading the entire ballgame. Alec Espeland took the loss on the mound.
Offensively for Post 8, Adam O'Day was 3-for-3, Espeland added two hits, and Evan Moore had a run-scoring double.
In the second game, Pierre used a seven-run third and cruised from there, taking the nightcap 14-5.
Dillon Gran scattered six hits in a complete game victory for Post 8.
Ryan Hahn had two hits and drove in two runs for Pierre, with Moore and Mike Coit adding two-run singles. Evan Fuller chimed in with an RBI double.
The 13-14's are 14-18. They will play the Pierre Tracers 13's Saturday and Sunday before the State 13-14 Majors Tournament, August 5-7 at the Harmondon Complex in Sioux Falls. The pairings will be available Tuesday on the website.

13-14 Teeners sweep Brookings
(07.22.05) -- Pierre Post 8's 13-14 Teeners swept the Brookings Bombers Thursday, winning 18-8 in six innings and 4-3 in nine innings at Hyde Stadium in Pierre.
Post 8 needed just six innings in game one, pounding out 18 hits in the victory. Adam O'Day went 4-for-4, with Ryan Hahn, Mike Coit and Graham Schuetzle each chipping in with three hits.
On the mound, Raven Cummings made Post 8 history, becoming the first female to ever gain a winning decision. She went five innings to earn the victory.
Game two was a back-and-forth battle, with Pierre tying the game in the sixth and winning it in the ninth.
Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, Mick Hofer lofted a flyball to centerfield, scoring Mike Coit to tie the contest.
Pierre had chances to win, loading the bases with none out in the seventh, and doing the same with one out in the eighth, but failing to score each time.
Finally in the ninth, with all three bases occupied, Hofer slapped a single through the middle to give Post 8 the win.
Dillon Gran, Josh Baker and Schuetzle each had two hits for Post 8. Evan Moore threw five innings, allowing three runs, with Dillon Gran tossing four shutout innings in relief to earn the win.
Post 8, 13-17, will host Huron Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Hyde Stadium.

13-14's again split with Black Hills teams
(07.21.05) -- The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners split another doubleheader against teams from the Black Hills Pony League Wednesday afternoon, falling to Black Hills Red 13-4 before defeating Black Hills Blue 12-9 at Hyde Stadium in Pierre.
Black Hills Red led Post 8 just 2-1 after four innings, but a four-run fifth, two in the sixth and five in the seventh blew the game open. Pierre did muster a run in the fifth and two in the seventh, but that was it.
Pierre threw a different pitcher every inning, with Evan Fuller allowing a run in the second, giving him the losing decision. Graham Schuetzle led Post 8 in the opener, going 3-for-4 at the plate.
In game two, Pierre jumped out to an early lead and never trailed, defeating Black Hills Blue 12-9. Schuetzle went 2-for-4 and delivered the big hit of the game, a three-run triple in the third that gave Post 8 an 8-5 advantage, breaking the only tie of the contest.
Adam O'Day added two hits for Pierre. Schuetzle was the winning pitcher, with Dillon Gran getting credit for the save by retiring the game's final two batters.
Post 8, now 11-17 on the season, will host the Brookings Bombers A today. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at Hyde Stadium.

13-14's split against Black Hills foes
(07.16.05) -- The Pierre 13-14 Teeners split a doubleheader against two all-star teams from the Black Hills Pony League, falling to Black Hills Red 11-1 in five innings before defeating Black Hills Blue 10-7 Friday night at Rapid City's McKeague Field.
Post 8 had just one hit, a Raven Cummings single, in the 11-1 opening loss. Evan Fuller was the losing pitcher.
Pierre then played one of their best games of the year, defeating Black Hills Blue 10-8.
Post 8 rallied from a 3-0 deficit, and after falling behind 7-5, scored the game's final five runs to claim the three-run victory.
Jacob Parsons led Post 8 with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Dillon Gran had a pair of hits, including a two-run double, and Evan Fuller also had two hits. Evan Moore was the winning pitcher in relief.
Pierre, 10-16, will host both Black Hills teams for one game apiece Wednesday, beginning at 3 p.m. at Hyde Stadium.

13-14's end skid, split at Mitchell
(07.13.05) -- Pierre Post 8's 13-14 Teeners rebounded from a game one loss, ending a five-game losing skid and splitting a doubleheader, 12-6 and 10-6, with the Mitchell 13-14 A Teeners Tuesay afternoon at Drake Field in Mitchell.
Trailing 4-3, Mitchell scored three in the third, and added more in the fourth and fifth, holding off Post 8 for a 12-6 win.
Graham Schuetzle threw three innings and was saddled for the loss, although he had two hits at the plate. Dillon Gran doubled twice, and Kris Hewlett and Evan Moore each chipped in with two hits in the loss.
Post 8 took game two 10-6, leading the entire way. Mike Coit was the winning pitcher, striking out six in the victory.
Coit also held his own at the plate, going 3-for-4. Schuetzle added three hits of his own, scoring three runs, and Moore had two hits.
The Post 8 13-14's are 9-15. They will play at Rapid City Friday, taking on the Black Hills Pony All-Stars at 6 p.m. at McKeague Field.

13-14 Teeners go 0-4 at Aberdeen Tournament
(07.11.05) -- Pierre's 13-14 Teeners dropped a pair of games in the Aberdeen Invitational Tournament Sunday, losing 7-1 to Selby's A Teeners and 3-2 to the Watertown 13-14 Teeners at Fossum Field.
Post 8 managed just three hits in each game, ending the tournament with an 0-4 mark.
Selby scored two first-inning runs, all they would need in the 7-1 win early Sunday.
Evan Fuller took the loss, surrendering ten hits. The three Pierre hits - Evan Moore's RBI single, a double from Jacob Parsons and a Graham Schuetzle single.
Post 8 suffered more frustration in the Watertown contest. Both teams exchanged the lead, and the six-inning game went extra innings.
In the seventh, with a runner on third for Watertown, Pierre was in the process of intentionally walking a batter to set up a force out when a balk was called, giving Watertown the winning run.

Fuller, Dillon Gran and Ryan Hahn supplied Pierre's three hits in game two, with Fuller driving in a run. Mike Coit laid down a successful squeeze bunt to score the other Post 8 run.
Moore was the losing pitcher, allowing six hits in 6 2/3 innings.
The 13-14 Teeners, 8-14, will travel to Mitchell Tuesday. The start time has been moved up to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Drake Field.

13-14 Teeners lose two at Aberdeen Tourney
(07.10.05) -- The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners dropped two close games in the opening day of the Aberdeen Tournament Saturday at Fossum Field.
Pierre lost game one to the Aberdeen 15-16 B Teeners, 8-7, then fell 6-4 to the Aberdeen 13-14 Teeners.
Against Aberdeen's B's, Post 8 fell behind early and never recovered. Ryan Hahn threw just the first inning, allowing four runs. He was the losing pitcher.
Adam O'Day led Post 8 with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. Graham Schuetzle added a double for Pierre.
Aberdeen's 13-14 Teeners also jumped ahead early, and held off Post 8 for a 6-4 win. Three Pierre errors were key in the loss.
Dillon Gran hurled a complete game, striking out two despite being charged with the loss.
Eavn Fuller and Mike Coit each had two hits for Pierre.
The 13-14's dropped to 8-12 on the year. They will play the Selby 15-16 A Teeners and the Watertown 13-14's this afternoon to conclude play in the Aberdeen Invitational.

13-14 Teeners split in Watertown
(07.08.05) – The Pierre 13-14 Teeners drew a split with the Watertown White Sox Thursday afternoon at Watertown Stadium.
Watertown won game one, 12-0, while Pierre took the finale 15-8.
Post 8 had just one hit, a single by Graham Schuetzle, in the five-inning opening loss. Schuetzle was the losing pitcher.
In game two, Post 8 smacked out 14 hits in the 15-8 win.
Dillon Gran and Jacob Parsons had three hits apiece, while Evan Fuller, Evan Moore and Adam O’Day each had two.
Fuller, Mike Coit, Moore and Gran all pitched in the second contest, with Coit gaining the decision.
The 13-14’s, 8-10, will participate in the Aberdeen 13-14 Teener Tournament this weekend.

13-14 Teeners swept in Aberdeen
(07.06.05) -- The Aberdeen 13-14 Teeners swept the Pierre Post 8 13-14's Tuesday afternoon, winning by scores of 7-3 and 5-1 at Fossum Field in Aberdeen.
Aberdeen jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opener, and held off Post 8. Pierre scored three late runs, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Ryan Hahn connected for three of Pierre's six hits in game one, including a double, driving in two runs. Graham Schuetzle, Dillon Gran and Evan Moore also had hits.
Alec Espeland took the loss.
In game two, Post 8 scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. It would not last, however, as Aberdeen scored in each of the first four innings, taking game two 5-1.
Mike Coit was the losing pitcher, throwing the first four innings.
Gran led Pierre at the plate, going 2-for-3.
The 13-14 Teeners dropped to 7-9 after being swept in Aberdeen. They head to Watertown Thursday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Watertown Stadium.

13-14 Teeners roll over Mitchell 13-14 B's
(07.02.05) -- The Pierre 13-14 Teeners oustcored the Mitchell 13-14 B Teeners 33-2, sweeping them in a total of eight innings Friday night at Hyde Stadium.
Pierre won game one in just three innings, 19-1. Evan Moore was the winning pitcher, throwing the final two frames.
Jacob Parsons led Post 8 with three hits, while Graham Schuetzle, Dillon Gran and Miles Schock had two hits apiece.
In game two, Post 8 needed five innings to dispose of Mitchell 14-1.
Mike Coit had three hits while Josh Baker and Joseph Wieseler each had two hits.
Moore pulled off one of the rarest feats a pitcher can, gaining the win in both games of a doubleheader.
Post 8 will travel to Aberdeen Tuesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fossum Field.

13-14 Teeners sweep SF West
(07.01.05) – The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners swept a doubleheader from Sioux Falls West, 8-3 and 14-9, Thursday afternoon at the Harmondon Baseball Complex in Sioux Falls.
In game one, Dillon Gran tossed a complete-game five-hitter, striking out five and allowing just three runs.
Graham Schuetzle, Adam O’Day and Mike Coit each had a pair of hits for Post 8, while Evan Moore added a double,
In the nitecap, Pierre cranked out 18 hits in 14-9 victory.
Moore and Coit led Post 8 with three hits apiece. Schuetzle had a pair of hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. In addition to his hits, Moore stole four bases in the game.
Mick Hofer, Jacob Parsons, Kris Hewlett and Ryan Hahn all chipped in with two hits each, Hahn adding three RBIs.
Following the sweep, the 13-14's improved to 5-7 on the year. They host the Mitchell 13-14 Teeners today, game time is 5 p.m. at Hyde Stadium.

Sioux Falls East sweeps 13-14 Teeners
(06.30.05) – The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners were swept by Sioux Falls East Wednesday evening, dropping both games by scores of 15-13 and 11-1 at the Harmondon Baseball Complex in Sioux Falls.
Post 8 dug themselves a hole in the opener, allowing 12 runs in the first two innings, and were unable to rally. Pierre did cut the margin to 15-13, and got two runners aboard in the seventh before the final out.
Ryan Hahn was the losing pitcher, lasting just one inning. Mike Coit threw the last six frames in relief.
Evan Moore and Mick Hofer each had two hits for Pierre, while Graham Schuetzle was 1-for-1 with three walks, a hit-by-pitch, and three runs scored.
East dominated game two from the get-go, winning in five innings 11-1. Schuetzle and Jacob Parsons had the only two Pierre hits, with Hofer reaching on a fielder’s choice to drive in Post 8’s lone run.
Pierre, 3-7, will be in Sioux Falls this afternoon to play the West 13-14 Teeners in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Harmondon Complex.

13-14 Teeners earn split at Brookings
(06.24.05) -- Pierre Post 8's 13-14 Teeners experienced both ends of the ten-run rule Thursday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader with the Brookings Bombers at Mickelson Middle School Field in Brookings.
Post 8 took the opener 15-4, while the Bombers won game two 13-3.
Evan Fuller's 4-for-4 day at the plate led Pierre in the opener. Evan Moore and Mick Hofer each had three hits, and Graham Schuetzle added a pair.
Fuller started the game on the mound, with Dillon Gran pitching the last three frames to earn the win.
Game two was the opposite, as the Bombers jumped out to a 12-1 lead after three innings and never looked back.
Schuetzle had two hits for Post 8, while Hofer drilled a two-run single in the top of the fifth to extend the game one more half-inning. Alec Espeland took the loss.
In the doubleheader, the 13-14's from Pierre struck out just twice at the plate. Perhaps more impressive, the five Post 8 pitchers that threw did not walk one batter in 9 1/3 innings of work.
With the split, the 13-14 Teeners are 3-5. The squad will travel to Sioux Falls next week on an overnight trip, facing both East and West.

13-14's finish 2-2 at Milt Simons
(06.20.05) – James Berreth's 13-14 Teeners defeated the Sioux Falls West 13's 13-0 in five innings, finishing up 2-2 this weekend at the Milt Simons Tournament in Sioux Falls.
The 13-14's dominated from the start, and Evan Fuller threw a three-hit shutout, striking out five.
Graham Schuetzle continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-4, driving in three runs. Evan Moore chipped in with two hits and two RBIs, and Mike Coit and Raven Cummings each tripled.
The 13-14 Teeners are now 2-4 on the season. They travel to Brookings Thursday to take on the Bombers A 13-14's. Game time is 1 p.m. at Mickelson Middle School Field.

13-14 Teeners get first win at Simons Tourney
(06.19.05) – The Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners earned their first win of the season, defeating Sioux Falls East 7-4 in their second game of the Milt Simons Tournament in Sioux Falls Saturday afternoon. Post 8 lost earlier in the day to West Point
, Neb., 11-7.
Pierre led for three innings of their first game, but West Point
rallied in the fourth and put the game away in the fifth. The game only went six innings due to a time limit.
Post 8 had just two hits: Evan Moore’s RBI double and a Miles Schock single.
Mike Coit was the losing pitcher, throwing four innings. Graham Schuetzle threw the final two.
In the game against East, Schuetzle led the way with three hits, two doubles, and a pair of RBIs. Moore also had two hits, one a double, and Mick Hofer doubled in the win. Pierre also had two successful squeeze plays to score runs.
Dillon Gran threw the first four innings, earning the first win this season for the 13-14 Teeners. Moore threw the last three, earning the save.
Pierre, 1-4, will play once in Sunday to finish out play in the tournament.

13-14's drop opener to Millard, Neb. at Milt Simons
(06.18.05) -- After a 15-day layoff, the Pierre Post 8 13-14 Teeners returned to action Friday night, dropping a 13-3 decision to Millard, Neb. in the Milt Simons Memorial Tournament at the Harmondon Baseball Complex in Sioux Falls.
Pierre kept it close early, trailing 4-2 after two innings. Millard scored two in each of the first four innings, one in the sixth, and four in the seventh.
Post 8 had six hits: a 3-for-3 day by Graham Schuetzle, two hits from Adam O'Day, and a single by Mick Hofer.
Pierre scored runs in the first and second on throwing errors while other runners were stealing. O'Day had the only RBI, driving in Evan Fuller in the sixth.
The 13-14 Teeners are still in search of their first win, as they are currently 0-3. They will play West Point, Neb. at 2 p.m., and Sioux Falls East at 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

13-14 Teeners swept by Aberdeen
(06.03.05) -- The Aberdeen 13-14 Teeners ensured that Pierre's 2005 debut was not successful. Aberdeen fought off the scrappy Post 8 squad, sweeping a doubleheader, 9-1 and 8-7, Thursday night at Hyde Stadium.
Things started well for Post 8 as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Evan Moore led off the first with a double. Miles Schock's sacrifice fly scored Moore for a 1-0 Pierre advantage. Aberdeen pushed two across in the third, and blew the game open with a five-run fifth. Mike Coit was the losing pitcher. Adam O'Day had a pair of hits in the opener.
Game two saw Aberdeen snag three first inning runs, before an unorthodox 6-3-2 double play kept them from getting more. Aberdeen added two in the third, but three Pierre runs made the game close. Trailing 8-4 in the seventh, Post 8 pushed three more across and got the tying run to second base before running out of chances.
