B Teener Coach
COACHING STAFF
Brian Pope

BRIAN POPE
Legion Assistant

Brian Pope returns for year three as a member of the Pierre Post 8 coaching staff. This year, however, he takes on a much larger task - assistant Legion coach.

Pope moves up to be Jim Iverson's assistant after spending two seasons as the B Teener coach. Pope and Trevor Fisher were co-coaches in 2004, then Pope was head coach of the B's a season ago.

Along with his B Teener coaching duties in 2004, Pope was also an assistant for Tyler Merriam's state champion 13-14 Teeners. Pope worked in much the same capacity last season, working alongside 13-14 Teener coach James Berreth.

Pope, like Fisher, played three seasons under Jim Iverson and is no stranger to his philosophy. Pope was an outfielder on the Pierre legion teams that placed third in the 2002 and 2003 State Championship Tournaments for Iverson.

Before playing legion, Pope spent three years playing teener baseball for Post 8. He was a B Teener in 1999, and also played for the first 13-14 Teener team Post 8 ever fielded. In fact, Pope was teammates with Fisher and Merriam on that team, which placed sixth at the state tournament in Watertown.

Pope spent the next two seasons as a member of the A Teeners, playing for Scott Rislov, Wade Hiller, and Iverson. In 2000, Pope was a member of the squad that finished runners-up at the State AA Tournament in Aberdeen.

Pope also brings a unique view to the system, as he grew up in Rapid City, playing in their nationally-affiliated little league system and watching Post 22 baseball. After years of watching and playing for two of the top baseball programs in the state, Pope will now share the knowledge he has gained with his players.

Pope, the son of Mark & Luella Pope, will be attending the University of Minnesota-Moorhead this fall, where he will study to become a teacher and coach.

Pope's younger sibling, Chris, plays for Post 8, and dad Mark is a member of the Pierre Post 8 Baseball Board.
