27-27 under coach Jim Iverson
Koester Tournament champions
A young Pierre Post 8 Legion squad compiled a .500 record, but a disappointing finish, dropping a 12-6 decision to Sturgis, falling short of the State Tournament for just the second time in the past 17 seasons.
Four 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old came up to the squad to form a team that loses just two players (shortstop Michael Kendall and outfielder Chris Pope) next year.
Veteran Mike Fisher had a superb season, hitting .346 with 16 doubles, seven triples and five home runs, driving in 33 runs.
Kendall wasn't far behind, hitting .324 with seven doubles and four home runs, while Brian Graves, another vet, hit .324 with 13 doubles and a team-high 38 RBIs.
Rookie Sam Koenecke, who missed 15 games due to an illness, actually led the team with a .365 average. Jordan Heckenlaible, who spent his first full season catching, hit .301 with seven doubles.
Jordan LaBrie hit .291 with 24 RBIs while Alex Lauseng compiled a .281 average.
Lefty Willie Knox was stellar, even though his 6-4 record doesn't indicate it. Throwing 77.2 innings, he walked just 12 while striking out 41.
Michael Gardner threw extremely well, striking out 36 in 53.2 innings while walking only 15.
Kyle Cichos, who has three years of eligibility left, went 6-5 with a 4.48 ERA. He struck out 54, but walked 27, in his 62.1 innings of work.

Notes: 7th Place Finish at State, Region 3A Runners Up, Aberdeen Smittys Tournament Champions
The Pierre Post 8 legion squad saw many ups and downs throughout the 2004 campaign. A team that, at times, seemed as if it would never get going, put together a stretch in late June where they won 11 of 16 games and gave Post 8 fans hope. As they split doubleheaders to end the year, the draw of Rapid City Post 22 in the opening round of the Region 3A tournament wasn't exactly the gift they were hoping for in August. However, Post 8 battled the perennial powerhouse until the end, then took care of Sturgis in loser's bracket play. Then the biggest win of the season happened for the squad, as Pierre not only defeated, but manhandled Rapid City Post 320 16-5. After going winless in four regular season games, Post 8 dominated their opposition, and then took care of Belle Fourche to earn a berth into the state championship tournament. Despite losing their first two games in state tournament play, Pierre surpassed almost everyone's expectations. A team with very little experience gave the city of Pierre many shining moments, and with 14 of the 18 players returning next year, the hope for a brighter 2005 is high with Post 8 fans.
