(08.15.05) – The Pierre Post 8 A
Teeners rallied from an early deficit to take third place in the State VFW

afternoon at Watertown Stadium.
Yankton scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the first, and held Post 8
hitless for four innings.
Post 8 put together a fifth-inning rally, starting with Jason Livermont’s
lead off walk. Sean Melmer bunted Livermont to second, then Alex Lauseng and
Sam Koenecke each drew walks to load the bases.
Jordan Shangreaux then hit a groundball to short to score Livermont, but a
bad throw enabled Lauseng to score, putting runners at second and third.
Michael Gardner hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Koenecke, then Jordan
Heckenlaible’s hard groundball bounced off the second baseman’s glove into
right for Post 8’s first hit, giving Pierre a 4-2 advantage.

A’s win regional in
extra innings
(08.07.05) – The Pierre Post 8 A
Teeners needed extra innings for the second straight day, but Jordan
Heckenlaible’s eighth-inning single to left single scored courtesy runner
Drew White and Sam Koenecke tossed a perfect bottom of the eighth, giving
Pierre another 7-6, eight-inning victory along with the Region 4AA
championship at Fossum Field in Aberdeen.
Post 8 rallied from an early deficit, and held off a scrappy Aberdeen team
to complete a perfect weekend, winning three games by a combined four runs.
Falling behind 1-0 in the first, Alex Lauseng was hit by a pitch with the
bases loaded, trying the score at one in the second. Aberdeen pushed three
unearned runs across in the bottom of the frame, however, putting them in
control.
Post 8 chipped away, with an RBI groundout from Heckenlaible scoring a run
in the third, and Lauseng walking with the sacks loaded to draw within one.
While Lauseng held Aberdeen in check through the fourth, Post 8 erupted for
three in the sixth. After loading the bases, Sean Melmer drew a walk to
plate the tying run.
Then with two outs and three runners still on, Sam Koenecke’s line drive
found the right-center gap for a two-run double, giving Pierre a 6-4
advantage.
Aberdeen rallied for two in the fifth, knocking out Lauseng in a 6-6 tie.
Koenecke came on in relief, and tossed three innings of one-hit relief. He
claimed the victory, retiring the final seven batters he faced.

A Teeners make state
in memorable fashion
(08.06.05) – Despite blowing a
four-run lead in the seventh inning, Post 8 rallied to force extra innings
and claim an eight-inning, 7-6 victory over the Huron A Teeners, reaching
the Region 4AA title tilt and qualifying for the State AA Tournament.
Pierre, 17-14, held a 5-1 lead after six innings before Huron put together a
five-run seventh, going ahead 6-5.
Needing a run in the bottom half of the frame, Jordan Heckenlaible drew a
one-out walk. With two out, Nick Marso roped a double to deep left field,
plating Heckenlaible to score the tying run.
Following a one-two-three eighth from pitcher Alex Lauseng, Jayson Herra led
off with a four-pitch walk. He moved to second on a wild pitch, and was
bunted over to third. Huron intentionally walked both Sam Koenecke and
Jordan Shangreaux to set up a force out, bringing Jordan LaBrie to the
plate.
LaBrie’s flyball to center was shallow, but it was deep enough to score
Herra just ahead of the throw, giving Pierre a wild 7-6 win and a berth in
the state tournament.
Michael Gardner threw 6 2/3 innings for Post 8, striking out six in a
no-decision. Lauseng retired the only four batters he faced to earn the
victory in relief.

A Teeners leave Watertown with split
(06.15.05) -- The Pierre Post 8 A Teeners are
4-4 on the season after splitting a pair of games with the Watertown Red Sox
at Foundation Fields Tuesday afternoon.
On a cold, blistery day with winds exceeding 30 mph, two sixth inning runs
gave Watertown a 2-0 victory in the opener. Post 8 led all the way in game
two to take the finale 4-2.
In game one, Pierre managed just two hits. Post 8 had numerous chances to
score, but a failed squeeze in the fourth and a diving catch in the sixth
resulted in double plays, costing Pierre at least a run on each occasion.
Michael Gardner got the loss, dropping to 0-2 despite allowing just six hits
and striking out four. Alex Lauseng and Jordan Shangreaux each singled for
the Post 8 hits.
Post 8 jumped on top early in the nitecap. Matt Farris singled to lead off
the game, stole second, and moved up to third on Jordan LaBrie's bunt
single. After LaBrie stole second, the game was halted for ten minutes
because of a heavy rain that was blowing into the batters' faces. When play
resumed, a wild pitch plated Farris, and Jordan Heckenlaible's groundout
scored LaBrie.
Farris came through with a two-out double in the second, scoring Nick Marso
to put Post 8 ahead 3-0. Watertown closed the gap to 3-2 with a couple of
second inning runs, but that was all they could muster. Marso added an RBI
single in the sixth to end the scoring.
LaBrie went the distance for Post 8 on the mound for his second win of the
