Sturgis eliminates
Legion
07.27.06 -
Following an impressive win over Spearfish to advance, Pierre Post 8 suffered
a disappointing 12-6 loss at the hands of Sturgis Post 33, eliminating them
from the Region 3A tournament and postseason play.
It will be just the second time in 17 years that Post 8 will not be in the
State Championship Tournament.
Starter Kyle Cichos never got into his comfort zone, and Sturgis jumped ahead
9-0 in the fifth to chase Cichos from the game. Willie Knox, who threw nine
innings earlier in the afternoon, held Sturgis to one run over three innings.
Post 8 did mount a rally in the eighth. Trailing 10-1, Pierre loaded the
bases, and thanks to a pair of errors and three wild pitches, scored five
runs.
Sturgis would come back with two ninth inning runs off Michael Kendall,
dashing Post 8's postseason hopes.
Knox led Post 8 through the opener, tossing a complete game and allowing just
two runs in a 13-2 victory over Spearfish.
Knox scattered 10 hits while striking out five, and he did not walk a batter.
Spearfish strung together four hits and two runs in the third, the only
blemish on an otherwise flawless afternoon from the southpaw.
Jordan Heckenlabile went 4-for-5, Mike Fisher had three doubles and Alex
Lauseng had three hits offensively.
Post 8 ends its' season at an even 27-27.
