  • A Teeners knocked out of regions
    (08.01.04) -- Pierre Post 8's A Teeners were eliminated from the Region 4AA Tournament in Huron Saturday, dropping their first two games in the four-team tournament. Post 8 dropped an 8-7 decision to the Huron Gray Merchants, then fell 9-5 to the Watertown White Sox. Pierre rallied against Huron, and Sean Melmer's two-run double in the 7th put Post 8 ahead 7-6. However, Huron in turn put up two runs in the bottom of the 7th to knock Pierre into the loser's bracket. Then, Watertown took care of Post 8 in an elimination game to end Post 8's season. The combined A Teeners/Split Squad ended their 2004 campaign with a 10-36 mark.

  • A Teeners swept at Yankton
    (07.26.04) -- Pierre Post 8's A Teeners dropped a pair of games to the Yankton Black Sox Monday afternoon, 8-3 and 2-0, at Yankton's Riverside Stadium. Nick Marso was the losing pitcher in the opener, which Post 8 lost 8-3. Sean Melmer was the victim in the second game, with Yankton winning 2-0. Now 10-34, Pierre will be at Madison Wednesday for a 6 p.m. twinbill at Flynn Field.

  • Aberdeen sweeps A Teeners
    (07.25.04) -- The Pierre Post 8 A Teeners allowed six runs in the first innings, and six the rest of the day to the Aberdeen A Teeners, but the Yankees still swept Post 8 Sunday afternoon at Hyde Stadium. Aberdeen used the six-run 1st to take game one 8-1. Dan Reiman provided Post 8's only run on a groundout that scored Nick Marso. Pierre had four hits, two of which were Marso's. In the second game, Pierre allowed two unearned runs, and twice forced an extra inning before falling 5-3 in nine innings. The Yankees scored unearned runs in the 1st and 5th, and led 2-0 heading for the 2nd. A hit by pitch, a walk, and a misplayed bunt loaded the bases for Pierre. Post 8 scored a run on a wild pitch, then tied the game on Drew White's sacrifice fly. When Aberdeen took the lead in the 8th, Riley Naylor singled home Jacob Wagner to again tie the contest. Finally Aberdeen pushed across two runs with two out in the 9th to win it. Drew White pitched the first seven for Post 8, with Jordan LaBrie getting the loss in relief. Now 10-32 this season, the A Teeners will be in Yankton Monday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

  • Split Squad swept by Belle Fourche
    (07.23.04) -- Belle Fourche Post 32's legion proved to be too much for the Pierre Post 8 Split Squad, as they swept Post 8 13-2 and 7-6 Friday night at Hyde Stadium. In game one, Pierre took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd, only to see Belle Fourche put up seven in the top of the 4th. They added three in each of the next two innings, claiming a 13-2 six-inning victory. Andrew Berreth had the only RBI on the evening, as he hit a groundball to second that played Michael Roberts for Pierre's second run. Roberts was the losing pitcher. In the second game, Pierre took an early 1-0 lead on Mike Fisher's triple in the 1st. That lead didn't last, and Belle Fourche led 7-1 heading into the 6th. Post 8 grabbed a run in the 2nd, then put up four in the 6th, and had two on when Post 32 retired the last two batters to win it. Chris Pope was the losing pitcher. Fisher ended the night with two triples and two RBI, and Brian Graves had an RBI double. The Split Squad's season is now completed, while the A Teeners have another week before regional play begins. The A's take on the Aberdeen Yankees Sunday starting at 1 p.m. at Hyde Stadium.

  • Split Squad third; A's 6th at Stephens Tourney
    (07.18.04) -- The Pierre Post 8 Split Squad defeated Yankton 5-4 to claim third place in the third annual Kris Stephens Memorial Tournament, while the Post 8 A Teeners lost 13-1 in the fifth place game to Sioux Falls East. In the A Teener contest, Pierre managed only three hits, and scored their lone run on an error. Drew White was the losing pitcher. In the third place game, the Split Squad and Yankton exchanged leads, with Pierre scoring the winning run in the 5th on an RBI single by Michael Roberts. Dan Johnson hit a two-run homer in the 3rd, and Roberts added a triple for Pierre. Roberts started the game on the mound, with Michael Kendall relieving for the victory. Kendall entered the game in the 4th with the bases loaded and none out, and struck out the side to preserve the tie. The Post 8 A Teeners also have cancelled their home games with Yankton on July 29. They will be in action again Friday, hosting the Belle Fourche legion.

  • Pierre teams 0-4 at Stephens Tourney Saturday
    (07.14.04) -- The Pierre Post 8 Split Squad and the Pierre Post 8 A Teeners eachdropped a pair of games in the third annual Kris Stephens Memorial Tournament Sautrday at Hyde Stadium. The Split Squad dropped opened up their day with a 13-7 loss to the Yankton Black Sox. Mike Fisher was the losing pitcher. In their second game, Post 8 managed just five hits in a 3-0 loss to Sioux Falls West, allowing two unearned runs. Willie Knox got the loss. For the A Teeners, they lost two games shortened by the eight-run rule on Saturday. First, Rapid City Post 320 defeated Pierre 9-1 in six innings. Post 8 managed just two hits in the game, while Drew White was the losing pitcher. In the nightcap Saturday, Post 8 fell 9-0 in five innings to Sioux Falls West. Joey Stahl was charged with the loss. The Split Squad plays in the third place game against Rapid City Post 320 at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, while the A Teeners take on Sioux Falls East for fifth place at 11 a.m. Sunday morning at Hyde Stadium.

  • Split Squad wins, A Teeners lose in Stephens Tourney
    (07.16.04) -- The third annual Kris Stephens Memorial A Teener Tournament began Friday at Hyde Stadium, with the two Pierre squads each suffering different fates. Andrew Berreth's two-run single in the 6th inning propelled the Post 8 Split Squad to a  came-from-behind vicotry over Sioux Falls East, 6-4. Chris Pope threw 6 1/3 innings for the win, with Dan Johnson notching the save. Pierre's A Teeners trailed the whole game, losing 16-3 in five innings to Yankton. Drew White led Post 8 offensively, slugging a two-run home run over the right field wall in the 1st, and adding a double later in the game. Joey Stahl was the losing pitcher. Both teams will play twice Saturday at Hyde.

  • Split Squad drop pair in Watertown
    (07.13.04) -- Pierre Post 8's Split Squad was swept Tuesday night in Watertown, losing to the Red Sox 10-8 and 13-1. Mike Fisher hurled a complete game in the opener, but was charged with the loss. Chris Pope and Drew White led Post 8 offensively with three hits apiece. Casey Buechler added two hits, and Fisher doubled in the loss. In the nightcap, Watertown claimed the 13-1 victory in just five innings. Buechler again stood out at the plate, with two hits, including a double. Drew White was the losing pitcher. After the losses, the Split Squad dropped to 10-24 this season. They will host the Stephens Memorial Tournament this weekend.

  • Split Squad again splits with Bullets
    (07.11.04) -- Pierre Post 8's Split Squad and Rapid City Post 22's Bullets split a doubleheader again Sunday afternoon at Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium in Rapid City. Post 8 took the opener 4-2, led by Michael Roberts' superb pitching. Roberts tossed a two-hitter to lead Post 8, who was aided by Drew White's two hits, to their 10th win of the season. In game two, Pierre dropped a 6-3 decision to the Bullets. Willie Knox was the losing pitcher for Post 8. Mike Fisher and Riley Naylor each had a pair of hits for Pierre. 10-22 this season, the Split Squad will be in Watertown Tuesday night to take on the Red Sox. Game time is 5:30 at Watertown Stadium.

  • Split Squad; Bullets split
    (07.10.04) -- Mike Fisher and Chris Pope led Pierre Post 8's Split Squad to a split with the Rapid City Bullets Saturday night at Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium in Rapid City. Pierre took the opener 7-4, but dropped a 10-5 decision in game two. Fisher threw a complete game in the opener, getting the win on the mound. He threw five innings of shutout ball before allowing two in each of the last two frames. The Bullets loaded the bases in both innings, but Fisher escaped those jams and got the victory. Chris Pope was 3-for-4 offensively, and Drew White added two hits, including a double. Pope threw a complete game in the nightcap, and he was charged with the loss. He had a pair of hits and two runs batted in to lead Pierre offensively. Nick Marso had two hits and two RBI, and Riley Naylor had an RBI single for Pierre. The Split Squad, 9-21, will again have the Bullets in a 2 p.m. CDT doubleheader in Rapid City Sunday.

  • Split Squad rebounds to split with Spearfish
    (07.07.04) -- Bill Gayton's Pierre Post 8 Split Squad shrugged off a five-inning loss with a ten-inning, come-from-behind victory en route to a split with the Spearfish Post 164 JV Wednesday night at Hyde Stadium in Pierre. Post 8 dropped their 20th game of the year in the opener, a 13-2 decision in five innings. Mike Fisher and Chris Pope each went 3-for-3, and they each had an RBI, scoring the only Pierre runs. Drew White was the losing pitcher. In the nightcap, Post 8 saw their lead vanish in the 7th, then fell behind in the top of the 10th before Dylan Dowling's two-run double to deep right field won a ten-inning affair, 8-7 was the final score. Dowling doubled home Nick Marso, who led off the inning with a single up the middle, and Casey Buechler, who doubled down the left field line. Fisher had another superb game at the plate, doubling in two runs and tripling in another. Dan Reiman, Brian Graves and Marso all doubled, with Jordan LaBrie adding a pair of hits and an RBI. The Split Squad, with a record of 8-20, will be in Rapid City this weekend, playing four games in Rapid City against the Post 22 Bullets.

  • Aberdeen dominates A Teeners
    (06.30.04) -- Pierre Post 8's A Teeners, who normally team up with legion players to form the Split Squad, played their first doubleheader on their own Wednesday afternoon, getting beaten handily by the Aberdeen Yankees, 15-0 and 16-0 at Fossum Field in Aberdeen. Jordan LaBrie led off game one with a double, but it was the only hit Pierre would get. Drew White was the losing pitcher in the opening game, which lasted just three innings. In game two, Nick Marso and Sam Willard provided Post 8's only hits as they fell 16-0, again in only three innings. The Split Squad is off for the rest of the week.

  • Split Squad sweeps Sturgis again
    (06.29.04) -- Pierre Post 8 Split Squad notched their fourth and fifth wins against Sturgis Tuesday night, winning two games via the 15-run mercy rule, 16-1 in four innings each time. Chris Pope won game one, while Willie Knox was the winning pitcher in game two. Mike Fisher went 3-for-3 in game one to lead Post 8 offensively. Nick Marso doubled and tripled, while Sam Willard had two hits and a sacrifice fly in the nightcap. Pierre, now 7-17 on the season, will be in Aberdeen tomorrow for a noon doubleheader.

  • Errors give Split Squad, RC 320 split
    (06.24.04) -- The Pierre Post 8 Split Squad allowed three unearned runs in dropping a 3-2 decision in game one, but benefited from seven 320 errors to split with Rapid City Post 320's Shooting Stars, winning the second 6-2. Chris Pope threw game one, allowing just two hits in a complete game performance. Three unearned runs gave Pope the loss, however, as the offense could only muster a pair of runs. In the nightcap, Willie Knox allowed just five hits, and had two of his own in the 6-2 victory. Pope and Jordan LaBrie also had two hits for the Split Squad. Now 5-17 this year, Bill Gayton's squad has the weekend off.

  • Sioux Falls teams sweep Split Squad
    (06.18.04) -- Despite having chances to win three games, the Post 8 Split Squad went 0-4 on a two-day trip to Sioux Falls. Thursday they took on Sioux Falls East, losing 11-10 and 10-8. In game one, Post 8 trailed 10-6 and was down to their final out in the 7th, but came back to tie the contest. Brian Pope knocked a two-run double to tie the game at 10. Pierre allowed an unearned run, though, and dropped the decision. Joey Stahl was the losing pitcher in relief. In the second game with East, Pierre suffered a 10-8 defeat. Drew White got the loss. Friday, Sioux Falls West took a pair from the Split Squad, 15-5 and 10-4. West led 6-5 after four innings in game one before they broke it open, winning in six innings. Stahl went the distance, getting the loss. In the second, Post 8 jumped out to a 3-0 lead, only to lose 10-4. Jordan LaBrie was saddled with the loss. The Split Squad dropped to 4-16 on the year, and have plenty of time to rest up. They are off until Thursday, June 24, when they travel to Rapid City to take on the Post 320 Shooting Stars.

  • Knox hurls no-no as Split Squad sweeps Sturgis
    (06.16.04) -- Willie Knox tossed a six-inning no-hitter as Bill Gayton's Pierre Post 8 Split Squad doubled its win total Wednesday night, sweeping the Sturgis Post 33 JV 11-2 and 16-0 at Strong Field in Sturgis. The story of the night was pitching for the Split Squad, as game one saw Chris Pope hurl a complete game three-hitter in the 11-2 win. In the second game, Pierre scored eight in the top of the 6th to claim the ten-run rule. Two Sturgis batters reached on errors, the only two baserunners against Knox. The Split Squad improved to 4-12 with the sweep, three of those wins coming over Sturgis. They travel to the other side of the state tomorrow, as they take on both Sioux Falls East and West in two games over Thursday and Friday.

  • Post 22 Bullets take two more from Split Squad
    (06.13.04) -- Rapid City Post 22's Bullets again proved to be too much for the Pierre Post 8 Split Squad. The Bullets left Pierre 4-0 on the weekend, defeating Post 8 11-4 and 9-4. In the opener, the Bullets three run first inning put them ahead for good. Post 8 scored two in the 1st and two in the 6th to account for their runs. Mike Fisher went the distance, he was charged with the loss. In game two, Post 8 took the lead early thanks to a four run 2nd inning. They could not add any more, however, and the Bullets capitalized on six Split Squad errors. To counter the errors, Pierre had only three hits on the day. The Split Squad drops to 2-12 on the season. Bill Gayton's squad is off until Wednesday, as they will travel to Sturgis, whom they have posted a win against, for a 6 p.m. CDT doubleheader.

  • Split Squad drops pair to Post 22 Bullets
    (06.12.04) -- Despite leading in both games, the Pierre Post 8 Split Squad was swept Saturday night by the Rapid City Post 22 Bullets at Hyde Stadium in Pierre. In game one, Post 8 got on top early thanks to a five run 2nd inning, which could have been more. Riley Naylor had apparently hit a three-run homer, but two of the three baserunners were ruled out for missing home plate, negating two runs and Naylor was only officially credited with a triple. The Bullets then scored four the next half inning, and went on to claim an 11-5 victory. Michael Roberts was the losing pitcher. In the nightcap, Pierre led 7-6 after five innings, but the Bullets pushed two across in each of the last two innings to notch a 10-8 win. Chris Pope hurled a complete game, getting the loss. The two teams meet Sunday afternoon, with the first game starting at 1 p.m.

  • Split Squad swept by Belle Fourche legion
    (06.08.04) -- The Pierre Post 8 Split Squad completed a six game, four day trip on the western side of the state 2-4 after dropping two to Belle Fourche's legion Monday afternoon in Belle Fourche. Post 8 lost game one 14-8, then suffered an 8-1 setback in the second game. Things started off well for Post 8, as Riley Naylor hit a three-run double, then Mike Fisher drove two in with a double, and Pierre led 6-2 after one inning. It was all downhill from there, however. Dylan Dowling was charged with the loss in the first game. Game two saw Belle Fourche dominate Post 8, whose only offensive spark came from a run scoring double by Dan Johnson. Mike Fisher threw into the fifth, he was the losing pitcher. Pierre returns home Thursday, hosting Watertown, with a 5:30 p.m. start time.

  • Split Squad 2-2 at Rapid City Tournament
    (06.07.04) -- The Pierre Post 8 Split Squad went 2-2 in the Rapid City Post 22 Big Hitter Tournament this weekend at Rapid City's Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium. Friday, Post 8 dropped a 7-3 decision to the Rapid City Bullets, Dan Johnson charged with the loss. Post 8 came back Saturday, as three third inning runs propelled Pierre to a 4-2 defeat of Spearfish. Chris Pope went the distance for the victory. Sunday, Post 8 split their two contests, defeating Sturgis 11-3 in five innings, then falling 14-4 in five to the Rapid City Split Squad. Drew White got the win against Sturgis, with Riley Naylor winning the game on a two-run ground rule double. Joey Stahl suffered the loss against the Post 22 Split Squad. Dan Johnson doubled in a run, and Michael Kendall singled in two more for Post 8. Pierre stays out west, taking on the Belle Fourche Post 132 legion Monday afternoon.

  • Split Squad drops first game at Rapid City Tournament
    (06.04.04) -- The Rapid City Bullets had a four-run six inning to defeat the Pierre Post 8 Split Squad 7-3 Friday afternoon in the first of four Post 8 games at the Rapid City Big Hitter Tournament at Fitzgerald Stadium. Dan Johnson was the pitcher of record, and held the Bullets in check for five innings before the Bullets had their big inning. Johnson was charged with the loss. Drew White led Post 8 offensively with a pair of hits. Post 8 has three more games in the tournament, then will stay out west for a doubleheader Monday with the Belle Fourche Post 32 legion.

  • Split Squad defeated twice by RC Post 320
    (06.01.04) -- Rapid City Post 320's Shooting Stars put on a fireworks display, scoring over 30 runs in sweeping the Pierre Post 8 Split Squad. Bill Gayton's team, now 0-4 on the season, will be out west on Friday for six games in four days. First they'll play four games in the Rapid City Post 22 tournament, then Monday will play Belle Fourche's legion.

  • Spearfish closes Ruddel Field sweeping Split Squad
    (05.30.04) -- Pierre Post 8's Split Squad dropped two to the Spearfish JV Sunday, the last two games at small Ruddel Field. The Spearfish teams will be in moving into Black Hills Fibercom Stadium next week. In game one, Post 8 dropped a 10-6 decision. Joey Stahl started the game, and was relieved by Drew White, who was credited with the loss. In the second game, Post 8 lost a tough one, 3-2. Michael Roberts was the pitcher of record, throwing a complete game. He also knocked in Pierre's only runs on a two-run single. Casey Buechler added a double for the Split Squad. Bill Gayton's team will host Rapid City Post 320's JV Tuesday.
