A's take third at
State
08.13.06 - The
Pierre Post 8 A Teeners pushed eventual state champion Huron to the limit in
Saturday's semifinal, losing 4-3 in eight innings, but bounced back to claim
third place at the State AA 15-16 Teener Tournament this weekend at Hyde
Stadium in Pierre.
Post 8 began play in the tournament Friday night with a 2-1 victory over the
Watertown Red Sox. Brian Drapeaux tossed a two-hitter, with the only run
allowed being an unearned run following a triple in the first inning. Only a
bloop single would taint six otherwise-hitless innings for the Red Sox
against the southpaw.
Jason Livermont singled home Will Corcoran to tie the game in the fourth,
then Evan Moore scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, scoring the game's
winning run.
Saturday night in the semifinals, Pierre jumped ahead with three runs in the
top of the first. Huron battled back, scoring a run in the third and two
unearned runs in the fourth.
Each team had chances to win the game near the end of regulation, but the
game went extra innings.
In the eighth, Huron plated one. Post 8 would put two on with two out, but
Livermont's scorcher to right was caught on the run to end the game.
Graham Schuetzle had three hits in the losing effort. Mike Coit did not get
a decision, despite throwing seven innings and allowing just one earned run,
striking out six.
Pierre came back Sunday with an impressive semifinal, defeating Sioux Falls
East 8-3.
All the game's runs were scored in the fourth. Post 8's Jayson Herra led off
the inning with a single, then came up later in the frame with a two-run
triple. Schuetzle and Chance Frederick added a pair of hits.
Moore threw a complete game, scattering nine hits while allowing just one
earned run.
Pierre finished third in the tournament for the second straight season. The
team allowed a total of eight runs in the three games, and only two were
earned.
